Due to the generosity of Drs. Jeff and Renee Waters who underwrote our benefit dinner, we leveraged that gift into a total of $600 cleared for the production. Opera students organized, setup, and served the buffet-style dinner, to a crowd of some 60 people. Many of our guests also donated to the darling "Heinz Tomato Sauce" cans which were used to hold centerpieces of music-note paper flowers on dried spaghetti stems, which increased our profits. Dr. Bill Brown, retired SBU Provost and Professor of Piano accompanied the scene from Die Fledermaus, sung by Emily Jaynes, Seth Walley, and Allison Leiker. Freshman Zephan McGlasson performed a Neapolitan song "Marechiare" with Jennifer Smith at the piano.
What a great start to our efforts! Thanks everyone, let's keep spreading our appeal for donations!
