Our team consists of 3 physical therapists, 1 physical therapist assistant, and 7 physical therapy students. (3 clinicians not pictured above.)
We will serve at a medical facility in East Asia for two weeks this summer. The medical facility houses approximately 70 orphans with medical disabilities. Many of the children are transferred to this facility in order to receive the surgeries and medical services (including physical therapy) that they would otherwise be unable to obtain.
We will perform physical therapy evaluations, interventions, and treatment plans for the children. We will also provide training for the facility's therapy team. Based on assessments from previous trips, our team will purchase and transport equipment specific to the needs of the children. Current needs include: forearm crutches, platform walker, hemi-height wheelchair, and a rolling toilet/shower commode.
There are multiple ways that you can help. First and foremost, please PRAY for the team and the impact of the trip for the children, physically and spiritually. Secondly, please DONATE by clicking "Donate Now" above or "Claim" along the right hand column. Every dollar counts and makes a difference, so please consider making a donation no matter how big or small.

"I decided to become part of this team because I've had the nagging feeling of wanting to work in pediatrics for the past year. I was never interested in working with kids before, so when I first got the idea it was fairly unexpected. I finally spoke up about it to a professor, and he recommended this trip to me. I am so thankful to have this opportunity to use what I've been learning to impact the lives of kids in need. My team members that have taken this trip in the past have had incredible experiences, and I cannot wait to make new memories with them."
"I am excited for this opportunity to combine two of my passions: children and physical therapy. I was honored to travel to the Dominican Republic and Guatemala on previous trips. These experiences instilled in me a passion to work with children with disabilities. I learned that every child deserves the opportunity to learn and grow in the best environment. Attending physical therapy school has given me a greater skill set to really make a difference in these children's lives. I am looking forward to being a part of this team traveling to East Asia to share my two passions."
"I feel incredibly blessed to have an opportunity to return to East Asia and provide care for the children at our partner site. One of my greatest joys in leading this trip is that I get to introduce new groups to such a special and unique place, and that together we are able to grow through serving the children and staff. The resiliency and joyfulness of the children that we work with never ceases to awe and humble me. As I travel, I hope to leave a sliver of the impact that the staff and children have had on shaping my life the past three years."
"Ever since starting physical therapy school I have wanted to work with the pediatric population. After hearing about all the wonderful things this team has done in the past I could not turn down the opportunity to travel and be a part of this amazing adventure. I cannot wait to help those in need using the many skills and knowledge I have acquired through my years as a student. We have an amazing group of students and therapists traveling, so I am sure that we are going to be able to make a significant impact on the lives of many, and they will make an equally large impact on us."
"I'm grateful for the opportunity to grow as a follower of Christ by stepping out of my comfort zone and use my abilities to help others who are in need."
"One of the main reasons that I came to SBU was to be apart of global health outreach. Since the beginning of physical therapy school I have hoped to go on numerous trips and apply what I learned in the field of physical therapy. This past year I went on a trip to Peru. It was a wonderful experience and made me realize the importance of of helping others both physically and spiritually. We were able to help them recover from injuries. One thing I found interesting on this past trip was working with children. It was more fun than I expected. I look forward to the opportunity to serve orphans and help them learn to live more productive lives."
"What happens when a group of physical therapists with a passion for kids learn of a place with kids but a scarcity of pediatric physical therapy? Well you get this incredible trip! I was on the team that went on this trip last year and the experience was absolutely life-changing; and not just for me. With the right medical guidance, these children have the potential to overcome so many physical setbacks. They just need the chance to grow. Now I'm just counting the days until I can reconnect with these same kids and hopefully be blown away by all the progress they have made in the past year."
