Bearcat Impact: Small Projects That Advance BIG Ideas

Bearcat Impact is Southwest Baptist University’s crowdfunding platform for student, faculty and staff-led fundraising projects. This platform offers a place to raise funds for small projects that advance BIG ideas. SBU groups create crowdfunding projects that raise support for missions, events, research and other SBU-related developments.

SBU’s crowdfunding platform, Bearcat Impact, provides our donors a way to financially support specific schools, programs and projects that they are interested in.

We encourage you to watch this helpful video to learn more about how crowdfunding can help you.

Who can use the Bearcat Impact Platform to raise money?

Bearcat Impact crowdfunding project users must be a part of an SBU academic department, student group or other official organization.

How will “crowds” learn about a project?

Bearcat Impact teams leverage their own networks to raise funds and awareness. These teams will work closely with a project manager and the University Relations department to develop an email and social media strategy that best fits each individual project.

How much financial support can crowdfunding teams expect to raise?

It’s anticipated that Bearcat Impact projects typically raise between $2,000 and $10,000. The total amount raised will depend on the size of your online audience, your personal contacts and the amount of effort your team dedicates to the project. It is best to start with realistic goals. If you reach your goal, you can always move on to a “stretch goal.”

What is the time commitment necessary to create and manage a SBU CrowdFund project?

Bearcat Impact projects require 10-12 weeks of commitment before and after a campaign. Bearcat Impact teams will be required to provide updates, such as new videos, social media postings, and sending out emails.

Crowdfunding campaigns are “public” on the platform for approximately 30-45 days. During this time, the project creator, or faculty/staff project advisor, is recommended to commit one hour per day, and each student team member should commit 30-60 minutes per day for the length of the campaign.
